FAQs

What can I expect in the first session?

Our first session is a time to get to know each other. We’ll explore what’s bringing you in, what you’re hoping for, and how we might work together. There's no pressure to "have it all figured out"—just come as you are.

What is Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) and how can it help me?

ISTDP (Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy) is a powerful, emotion-focused therapy that helps uncover and resolve unconscious patterns that may be holding you back. Together, we gently explore how past experiences may be affecting your current emotional life, relationships, and physical wellbeing. The goal is lasting change—not just coping, but healing at the root.

Do you take insurance? What are your rates?

I currently offer private pay sessions and can provide superbills if you'd like to seek out-of-network reimbursement through your insurance.

Neurofeedback sessions are $125, and telehealth therapy appointments are $220 for 50-minute sessions. I also hold a few spots for clients navigating financial challenges—please feel free to reach out if cost is a concern. We can explore what might be possible together.

If you're reaching out for supervision, I’d be happy to share more about availability and rates—send me a message at dianemillerlicsw@gmail.com and we can talk further.

What is neurofeedback and how does it work?

Neurofeedback is a non-invasive brain training method that helps regulate the nervous system. Using real-time feedback from brainwave activity, it supports greater calm, focus, and emotional resilience. It’s like going to the gym—but for your brain.

Is neurofeedback safe?

Yes. Neurofeedback is a safe, drug-free, and evidence-informed modality used by therapists and healthcare providers around the world. Most people find it relaxing and notice positive shifts over time.

Where are you located, and do you offer virtual sessions?

If you're in DC, Maryland, or Virginia, we can meet virtually through secure telehealth. Neurofeedback sessions are offered in person in Brookland, Washington, DC.
